Ace Wye Motor Connection
The delta and wye motors provide the exact same performance in theory.
Wye motor connection. Delta vs wye phase connections. If leads t1 t6 t2 t4 and t3 t5 are wired together and power is applied at the vertices the connection is delta. The end result is that force torque is exactly the same.
The primary reason for connecting in wye or delta is basically for manufacturing convenience. Each voltage has the 120 phase angle differences. The wye connection joins together one end of each of the coils and applies the individual phases to the open ends.
It may be delta or wye both have a difference of 120. It does not have anything to do with the way the upstream transformer is connected. The delta has a lower resistance a lower torque constant and a higher current.
Motor connection with vfd delta or wye. I say in general because some motors are not pre connected either way. For induction motors if you run the motor at a high flux level the winding flux magnetizing current has a significant third harmonic content that can flow around the delta winding without appearing in the lines to the vfd.
So all we can do is connect the motor for the correct voltage. An advantage of the delta connection is higher reliability. Even they have equal amplitudes which makes a three phase system has three phase voltages is their phase angle differences.
These two connections produce very different results when power is applied. We ll discuss that in a minute. The first type is balanced wye wye connection.
